CCorporate purpose

The company's corporate purpose includes:

  • the research, development, design, industrialisation and commercialisation of innovative solutions for the management, dissipation and control of energy, in particular impact, vibrational, acoustic and thermal energy, based on advanced cellular structures, metamaterials, innovative materials and additive manufacturing technologies (3D printing);
  • the development of engineered materials and components with advanced functional properties, including but not limited to:
    • impact absorption and mitigation, in particular for personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety systems across various sectors, including, by way of example:
      • mobility (helmets for motorcyclists, cyclists and micromobility);
      • sports;
      • industrial and construction sectors;
      • defence and public order;
      • medical and biomedical sectors;
    • vibration damping;
    • acoustic insulation and control;
    • thermal management and dissipation;
  • the design and validation of advanced numerical and biomechanical models for the study of the physical phenomena described above, including impacts, vibrations, acoustic propagation and heat transfer, through simulations and experimental activities;
  • the development of data-driven customised solutions in the areas described above, also through the use of 3D scans, real-event databases and optimisation algorithms;
  • the provision of engineering services, technical consultancy, testing, certification and technology transfer in the areas described above;
  • the development, management and exploitation of patents, licences and intellectual property in the areas described above;
  • the production and commercialisation, directly or indirectly, of components, systems and finished products based on the developed technologies.

DDescription of activities and R&D

CELLMETS develops 3D-printed auxetic metamaterials for impact protection, based on a proprietary computational design methodology and on biomechanical models developed in the crash laboratory of Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca and with maxillofacial surgeons of Niguarda Hospital in Milan.

Innovation requirement · CELLMETS meets the subjective requirement set out in art. 25, paragraph 2, letter h) no. 2 of Italian L.D. 179/2012, by employing — as employees or collaborators in any capacity, in a proportion equal to or greater than two-thirds of the total workforce — personnel holding a master's degree.
